History

In the early 1980’s, two uptown boyhood friends began working together after school repairing cars for their friend’s parents. Stephen Simmons and Billy Schoen had been friends since grade school and were inseparable. Both shared a love of mechanics.

Stephen was employed as a diesel mechanic, repairing enormous ship engines for George Engine Company. Billy was a full-time student studying Mortuary Science and working weekends at his family owned funeral home business. Their spare moments were spent tinkering away on automobiles, and they soon decided to form a business doing the work they loved. Uptown Imports, Inc. was born. With the passing of Stephen in 1993, Billy was left to run the business he and his friend built together with the promise that Uptown Imports would be run with the same spirit of excellence and dedication to customer service the two partners first envisioned.
